Our Faculty
The faculty and administration are comprised of certified personnel who are practicing Christians committed to Catholic education and who model its values and way of life. The faculty and staff are required to comply with the school’s philosophy and possess the necessary certification and professional qualifications.
Meet the Faculty of St. Mary School
Principal: Mrs. Kathleen Dutil- 19 years of teaching experience – 10 at St. Mary School. Principal of St. Mary School for the past 18 years. Undergraduate: Bridgewater State College; Graduate: University of Hartford and Central CT State University. Member of the NCEA and Delta Kappa Gamma International.
Preschool
Teacher – Mrs. Nicole Milardo 17 years teaching experience. Associates Degree in Early childhood Education. Graduate of Briarwood College. Enjoys cooking, Girl Scouting, family and her pets.
Aide – Mrs. Jeannie Ziomek: Instructional Aide in preschool program. 17 years of experience at St. Mary Preschool.
Kindergarten
Teacher – Mrs. Josephine Amleto –undergraduate: B S in Education -St. Johns University 7 years teaching experience at St. Mary School.
Aide – Mrs. Rosemary Kilpatrick- BA in History –Rosemont College- 23 years of experience at St. Mary School.
Grade One
Teacher – Mrs. Beverly Carroll: 18 years of teaching experience. Graduate of the University of Connecticut. Master of Science in Remedial Reading – St. Joseph College.
Grade Two
Teacher – Mrs. Michelle Cardella: 35 years of teaching experience- 30 years at St. Mary School. Undergraduate degree from St. Joseph College.
Grade Three
Teacher – Mrs. Tracy Allgaier: 17 years teaching experience at St. Mary School. Undergraduate – Southern Connecticut State University. Graduate- Central CT State University
Grade Four
Teacher – Mrs. Melanie Bruckner : 13 years of teaching experience at St. Mary School. B. A. in Mathematics Undergraduate: Trinity College ; Graduate: Central CT State University. Serves on Strategic Planning Committee NCEA Member.
Grade Five
Teacher – Mr. Jason Cartala 11 years of teaching experience. Undergraduate and Graduate: Eastern CT State University. 6th Year in educational leadership from Sacred Heart University CT State Certification in Administration and Supervision, Elementary Education K-6 Coaching and Special Education. Mr. Catala is a member of the St. Joseph Parish Council in New London and is actively involved in Connecticut Government. He serves as Secretary on the New London School Board. He is a huge Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics fan!
Grade Six
Teacher – Mr. Ted Czuj: Grade 6 homeroom teacher. Math teacher for grades 6, 7, & 8. 32 years of teaching experience. 12 years at St. Mary School. Undergraduate: Central CT State University. Faculty representative at many school functions.
Grade Seven
Teacher – Mr. David Carey: Grade 7 homeroom teacher. 8 years teaching experience. Undergraduate: Albertus Maagnus. Mr. Carey is an actor at the Ivoryyton Playhouse, and he is a village director at Mountain Mist Day Camp.
Grade Eight
Teacher – Mr. Joseph Zilaro: Grade 8 homeroom teacher. 27 years of teaching experience. 12 years at St. Mary School. Undergraduate: St. Bonaventure University. Graduate: Central CT State University, Yale University, and Southern CT State University.
Mrs. Tamarra Cohun – Graduate of University of Connecticut. Primary Aide Extended Day Program Teacher.
Sister Catherine Mary Symanski – Religion Teacher-Grades 6,7,& 8. Tutor. 46 years teaching experience; 13 years teaching experience- at St. Mary School. Master of Arts from Emmanuel College. CT State Certification.
Mrs. Jill Hernandez – Music – Preschool-Grade 5. Instrumental Band Director –Grades 4-8. 23 years teaching experience- 8 years at St. Mary School. Undergraduate: University of Hartford- Bachelor of Music. Graduate- Central CT State University- CT certification Pre-K – 12 music. Mrs. Hernandez is married and has two children, Emilie and Matthew.
Mr. Daniel Stegos – Art- Grades K-8. 5 years teaching experience at St. Mary School. A graduate of Paier College of Art. Mr. Stegos is a professional illustrator and accomplished artist.
Dr. Victor Triay – Spanish 23 years of teaching experience-15 years at St. Mary School. Undergraduate: University of Florida. Graduate: Florida State University. Dr. Triay is married with three children. He is a parishioner of St. Pius X Church. He is a full time history professor at Middlesex Community College and a published author.
Theresa Rovillo – Title 1 Instructional Tutor -7 years teaching experience. Three years at St. Mary School. Undergraduate: Trinity College , Hartford, CT – BA English – Graduate – Central CT State University – MA Rehab Counseling – CT State Certification – Provisional Educator K-6 English 4-12.
